Abstract of grant with additions
from survey
Granted to Conrod Henneger
on June 26, 1787
210 acres in Washington County,
VA on a branch of the Middle fork of Holstein River
Certificate in Right of Settlement
[certificate incorporated into
survey record: ...Conrad Hennigar is entitled to 250 acres of land in
Washington County on dry run a branch of the Middle Fork of Holstein,
37 acres of which was surveyed June 27, 1774, ... to include his settlement,
he having proved that he was entitled to the same by actual settlement
made in 1771.]
Survey Date: November 12, 1784
Beginning at 2 white oaks and
black oak
on James Thompsons line
and runneth thence
S 68° W
78 poles [line
shared with James Thompson, I don't have survey data of Thompson's tract,
this line is a near match to a later survey of Robert Cleghorn, S 65°
W 76 poles, Cleghorn was neighbor to north of Henneger]
to 3 white oaks [matches Robert Cleghorn's survey, his survey also
adds "near Hinnegars field"]
N 50° W 88 poles [near match to Robert Cleghorn's line,
N 45° W 84
poles, and his survey is worded "with a line of his land" (Hinnergars)
- therefore this is clearly supposed to be a shared line between Henneger
and Cleghorn, even though the angles are 5 degrees different and the length
of the line is 88 poles vs. 84 poles]
to 3 black oaks [matches Robert Cleghorn's survey]
on a ridge [Cleghorn's: "on the top of a ridge"]
N 78° W 98 poles [Cleghorn's is N 80°
W 84 poles, shorter length of Cleghorn's suggests that his line does not
match Hennegers in length, but rather stops short and then leaves Henneger's
line]
to black oak [Cleghorn's is large white oak, confirming that Cleghorn's
line stops short of Henneger's]
on Walkers old line
and with the same
N 59° W 48 poles [this line segment apparently not shared
with any adjacent tract of owned land]
to a black oak
on old corner
and also a corner of Lewis
S 30° W 123 poles [matches Aaron Lewis, 400 acres]
on Lewis's line
to a large white oak
S 56° E 15 poles [matches Aaron Lewis, 400 acres]
to 2 white oak
on the east side of a spring
S 30° E 64 poles [matches Aaron Lewis, 400 acres]
to 2 buckeyes and a walnut
in a rich hollow
thence leaving Lewis's lines
and with Lefevers lines
S 70° E 68 poles [matches Abraham Lefever's line]
to a Spanish oak and white oak
S 13° W 28 poles [matches Abraham Lefever's line]
to a large white oak
S 14° E 78 poles [matches Abraham Lefever's line]
to a walnut
in a hollow
on the south side of the main road
and on said Thompsons line
and running with the same
N 35° E 11 poles [line shared with James Thompson, I don't
have survey data of Thompson's tract]
3 white oaks
the old corner of the old patent tract
and with a line thereof
N 47° E 289 poles [line shared with James Thompson, I don't
have survey data of Thompson's tract]
to the beginning
