Grants No. 9, 1787, p. 203
Granted to Edward and John Jameson on May 4, 1787
414 acres in Washington County,
VA on the waters of the Middle fork of Holstein River
Survey Date: March 26, 1785
Preemption Treasury Warrant #1966
Beginning at
2 white oaks
corner to Aron Lewis land [400 acre tract on a creek called Dry Branch]
and with a line thereof running [seems not to be a line shared with Lewis]
S 55° W 213 poles [I have not determined if there is another tract sharing this line. The tract labeled P on the map is just east of this line and is owned by Aaron Lewis. However, the nearest line for the Lewis tract is S 31° W 195 poles. It appears that there is another tract of land with a triangle shape between the Jameson and Lewis tracts, but I have not located the grant for this land.]
to a white oak
in a rich hollow
being Jacob Heirs [Hice] corner [Thomas Bates was the assignee of Jacob Hiess (Hice)]
and with his lines
N 44° W 144 poles [shared line with Thomas Bates, but the Bates line is 338 poles long, Jameson shares only the northwestern 144 pole section]
to a red oak
S 54° W 154 poles [matches Thomas Bates line]
to a red and a white oak
by a spring
N 30° E 20 poles [angle matches Buchannens' line, their line being 80 poles, of which only the northeast 20 poles is shared with Jamesons' line]
to a white oak on a ridge
Buchannans corner
and with his lines
N 5° W 26 poles [matches Buchannans' line for adjoining tract]
to 2 gums and dogwood
by the creek
N 34° E 279 poles [fair match to adjoining tract of Buchannens', their line is S 38° W 270 poles. The Jameson survey was done 3 years after the Buchannen survey and probably represents an adjustment to this shared line.]
to a black oak, chestnut and locust
on the side of a bushy ridge
N 5° W 26 poles [angle matches Buchannans' survey, but their line is longer, 76 poles, Jameson shares only the southernmost 26 poles with Buchannan]
to a black and 2 white oaks thence
leaving Buchannans line and running
N 84° E 104 poles [line not shared with another tract, only the southern edge of Walkers Mountain]
to a white oak
on the point of a spur thence
N 30° E 264 poles [error: should be S 30° E 264 poles - I have not determined if there is another tract sharing this line]
to the beginning
