GEAR wins four awards at 2024 NRC!

The following GEAR members participated at the 2024 National Robotics Challenge, April 18 to 20.

Robot Maze Contest

Ginny Goodall: Bronze Award, robot maze, middle school division

Anthony Fioritto: robot maze, high school division.

Rescue Robot Contest

Collette Johnson (team captain), Sam Geraci (operator) and Noah Lear : Gold Award, rescue robot, middle school division

Janna Winningham (team captain), Lena Wright (operator), Molly Moidell and Mandi Petonic: Silver Award, rescue robot, middle school division

Honda Innovation Award

Janna Winningham, Lena Wright, Molly Moidell and Mandi Petonic were awarded the Honda Innovation Award for their Rescue Robot entry. This is the top award given each year at the NRC.

Anthony Fioritto, robot maze, high school divison.

In practice the day of the contest, Anthony's robot was able to run the complete maze. During his three runs during the contest, his robot did not complete the maze, although his last run came very close. Anthony spent many hours developing his code for the maze, which contained more than 250 lines in C-language.

6th grade Rescue Robot grabs the ball in the gravel pit. The robot has a centrifugal blower that draws a large volume of air into the tube at the front of the robot. When the tube is near a ball, it is sucked into the tube.
