Married in the "Great Depression" years. Irma had saved enough money from teaching to purchase all new furniture and a piano to furnish their new home.

They have been quite active in First Baptist Church in Elk Horn (an affiliate of the Conservative Baptist Association of America). Irma has taught the Junior class and has been pianist and organist for many, many years. They are both serving on the Church Library board at present.

Bought current house, remodeled, built an attached garage and paved driveway then moved in in 1971. Still very much at home there.

Irma loves flowers and has a beautiful perennial flower garden, also MANY house plants - African Violets, Philodendrons, Diffenbachia and ferns.

After temporary duty at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD he returned to Ft. Polk and organized and taught at an automotive tune-up and fuels systems class for the U. S. Armed Forces Institute. Also owned a sewing machine so "I was the company tailor, sewing on I.D. patches, tailoring shirts, mending holes in clothes etc. Business was good as the First Sergeant sent much business my way. Ha."

After marriage (and discharge from Army) moved to West Los Angeles and worked as automobile mechanic. Fall of '61 moved to Denver, CO working with an independent repair shop and later for a large Ford Dealership in Aurora, CO, doing line mechanic work and automatic transmissions.

In 1965 bought a farm 2 miles west of Rorbeck, IA, started farming and working as auto mechanic part time in Atlantic and Elk Horn for the first year. Attended 8 week Winter Farm Operations program at Iowa State University and has been farming ever since.

Moved into one of Dad's farms in '84 where the house had not been lived in for quite some time. Did some remodeling work, which left the already small home with only five rooms, including the bathroom and the porch.

Started doing farm machinery painting and refinishing work for some neighbors in 1985. "Since then, this "hobby" has grown into a business that has me doing paint work for two area implement dealers and numerous other people in the Elk Horn and surrounding areas."

In addition to helping Dad farm his 450+ acres, renting 180 acres of my own and painting machinery approximately 6 month of the year, I still find time to do some less pressing hobbies (above).

Christensen started flying five years ago and obtained his instrument rating last spring at Glendale, CA flying school. He then went to Kansas City where he, with a class of 14 took a course in the Transcontinental Western Air Training School.

Out of the group he was one of four to be chosen for further work, and he was also the youngest man selected for the job out of this group. He now flies a 21 passenger Douglas D. C. 3 plane." _
