heirs of Thomas Daugherty N:329 (26 OCT 1855)
WGF120 - William
and Granville Foster N:88 (1 DEC 1855) - purchased from Solomon

Subdivision of military
survey labeled B
BG150
- Benjamin Gholson B:134 (7 JAN 1814) purchased from James Daugherty
et al.
William Simpson, commissioner
for court in Wayne County, conveyed to Polly McGhee and Charles
Mullins (wife Amy)
E:175 (13 APR 1830)
DL20 (20 1/2 acres)
- David Lefevers B:491 (28 OCT 1818) purchased from Thomas Wilson
This tract was subdivided
off of a 132 acre tract sold by James Dougherty to Thomas Wilson B:135
(5 JAN 1814)
Solomon E. Tuttle
J:200 (21 OCT 1842)
DL100 - David Lefevers
D:287 (24 OCT 1826) purchased from John L. Dibrell
"Containing by supposition
100 acres, part of 400 acres surveyed by Thomas Carneal's heirs [sold]
to John L. Dibrell."
The last line segment of this survey, moving north west on the west
side of the tract is: "North 7 degrees West with the road
8 poles to a poplar on the Military Line..." Thomas
Wilson's 80 acre tract (D:237) shares this line and in that deed the
line is described: "North 7 degrees West with the road 80 poles
to a poplar on the Military Line." While it is possible that one
of the line descriptions was copied incorrectly into the deed book,
there may be another explanation for the variance. The two military
surveys in this area apparently overlapped (the 2,000 acre Harrison
tract and the 1348 acre Thomas Carneal tract). If we suppose that the
northern border of David Lefevers tract was limited by the southern
border of the Harrison tract, then a line length of 8 poles would allow
the tract to be placed without intruding into the Harrison tract. Clearly,
Wilson's adjacent tract, with a line of 80 poles length, would have
intruded into the Harrison tract. Yet, if we limit Wilson's line to
8 poles, instead of 80, then his survey does not close properly, because
the line on the west side of the tract is 220 poles. The 220 pole line
of Wilson's survey caused the tract to intrude into the Harrison tract,
which is indicated on the map by a dashed blue line. I would suggest
that these conflicts may represent the surveyor's attempt to correct
for the overlap of the military surveys in the case of David Lefever's
tract, but not so in the case of Wilson's tract.
Solomon E. Tuttle
J:200 (21 OCT 1842)
DL105 - David Lefever
granted by the state of Kentucky 4 JAN 1811, Grants South of Green River
- this tract was not part of the military survey, but adjacent to the
military survey
Solomon E. Tuttle J:200
(21 OCT 1842)
DS200 -
David Shores B:121 (12 APR 1813) - purchased from Reuben Shores
The northern tract line and
subsequent line are described: "...North 73 degrees East 150 poles
to a red oak the corner on Gholson's line thence South 25 degrees East
141 poles passing Gholson's [corner]..." The N 73 E line runs on
the northern border line of Carneal's 1348 acre survey. And
we learn that the eastern corner of the N 73 E line is on Gholson's
line, which is the western border line of the 2,000 acre Harrison military
survey. Then as we move to the south east on the next line of David
Shores' tract, we learn that it passes Gholson's corner (the south west
corner of Harrison's 2,000 acre survey). The only way to describe this
situation is to suppose that the Carneal 1348 acre survey and Harrison
2,000 acre survey overlapped (consult the tract map to observe this
graphically).
Cornelius Phillips
B:360 (12 JUL 1813)
Thomas Gann B:140 (24 NOV 1813) - 20 acres of 200 purchased from
C. P. and Micajah Vanwinkle - "...where
Vanwinkle now lives..."
Thomas Gann C:89 (5
OCT 1819) (remaining 180 acres sold by C. P. and M. V.)
Edward Cooper G:21
(23 SEP 1835) - purchases all 200 acres
GE137 - George Eller
B:386 (27 FEB 1817) purchased from Thomas Wilson
This tract was a combination
of two tracts owned by Thomas Wilson, excluding 20 1/2 acres purchased
by David Lefevers
Thomas Wilson B:135 (5 JAN 1814) 132 acres - purchased from James
Dougherty
Thomas Wilson B:207 (4 FEB 1815) 12 acres - purchased from James
Dougherty
William Simpson, commissioner of the court for Wayne County, conveyed
a portion of the 137 acre tract to Polly McGhee, Charles Mullins
and Amy his wife E:180 (1 APR 1830)
JC150 - John
Crooks C:48 (7 OCT 1818) - purchased from Reuben Shores
In this deed "...below
Gholson's Ferry..."
Alfred and Micajah Phillips C:49 (7 OCT 1818)
Alfred sells his share to Micajah E:273 (11 SEP 1830)
William Cullom E:369 (23 MAY 1831) - part of the 150 acre tract
purchased from Micajah Phillips
Childers Hart F:438 (27 JUN 1835) - the remaining part of 150
acre tract purchased from Micajah Phillips
The tracts in deeds E:369
and F:438 contain some extra land of Reuben Shores' or James Daugherty's
that was apparently not included in the initial subdivisons. These tracts
are helpful in resolving the conflicts of overlapping military tracts,
Harrison's 2,000 acres and Carneal's 1348 acres. In the E:369 deed there
is this line: "...[at Burnham's corner] North 25 degrees West with
Burnham's line 103 poles to a large black oak on Gholson's line, thence
South 63 degrees West 13 poles [on the line of the 2,000 acre survey
of Harrison]..." The adjacent tract [Burnham's] shared line description
(deed D:237) is: "...South 30 degrees East 224 poles...".
Thus, Burnham's survey, which was supposed to be contained in the 1348
acre Carneal survey, intruded into the Harrison 2,000 acre military
survey. The deed F:438 contained a thin strip of land adjacent to E:369,
on the west side, and shared the south western corner of the Harrison
2,000 acre survey.
JD96 - John Daugherty
B:132 (5 JAN 1814) purchased from James Daugherty
The dimensions of the survey
for this tract indicate that it was considerably larger than 96 acres.
Perhaps it was supposed to be 196 acres.
112 acres, the western portion
of this tract, was sold to the following individuals
Bartholomew Hadon B:138 (25 JAN 1814)
Anthony Gholson B:253 (26 SEP 1815)
